INTERNATIONAL TOURISM PORTAL OF CANAKKALE!

TROJAN HORSE LOVERS GET MARRIED

Last year, the famous Trojan Horse used in the Hollywood movie, TROY, was brought to Chanakkale with the efforts of the Culture and Tourism Ministry and The Municipality of Chanakkale. During the reconstruction work of the giant Trojan horse used in "Troy" movie, the German engineer, Erik LUDWIG, and the interpreter of the German construction crew, Semra BEDER, a Turk, fell in love with each other. Yesterday their timeless love (a la our protagonists, Olivia Hayden and Somer Berk!) has been affirmed with marriage. The couple told that the Trojan Horse is the source of their love.  Erik and Semra plan to live in Chanakkale.

Requiem for the Rock Star

I believe in reincarnation, and I am sure that once upon a time, Manfred Osman Korfmann lived in ancient Troy and returned to our time to help unearth its secret wonders....

Prof. Korfmann had been working on the ancient city of Troia for 18 years and his rich variety of important findings quoted widely in the national and international press.  Specializing in pre-historic archaeology, he had taught at the Eberhard-Karls-Universitat Tubingen in Germany, as well as been an advisor for the Archaeology Dept. of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart (Eighteen March) University. Recipient of many awards, one of his greatest achievements was the work he performed on the establishing of Çanakkale - Tubingen - Troia Foundation (in 2004 he'd been nominated Chairman). It was important for him to show the historic/cultural ties between Europe and Asia Minor. The latest news, hot off the press, right now, courtesy of Canakkale Travel's Ayhan, is that he has willed his collection of 200,000 books and periodicals to the Çanakkale-Tübingen Troia Foundation.

ANCIENT TROY ENCHANTS TOURISTS

In the first 5 months of  2005, 228.545 national/international tourists have visited the ancient city of Troia. The chief of Çanakkale Culture and Tourism Directorship, Ismail Kansiz, has said that "In the last 1 year, Çanakkale is attracting increasing numbers of tourists from all over the world. " The most visited places are the Ancient City Troia, Historical Gallipoli Peninsula National Park, and the Ancient City Assos. In 2004, the number of the total visitors to Troia was 204.309; this number has already been passed in the first 5 months of 2005. It's predicted that with the promotions of Çanakkale in the national and international tourism fairs and workshops, the number of tourists coming to the impressive sites of Çanakkale will continue to increase.
